Why are most perfume bottles made of glass?

Originally, perfumes were contained in crystal bottles, but later they were replaced by glass bottles.

Since the main solvent of perfumes is alcohol, and there are also a variety of natural or chemical components inside, glass bottles are more stable compared to plastic bottles. They are less likely to react with other substances; while plastic bottles have lower stability and are prone to corrosion.

Perfumes are best not stored in plastic bottles because they all contain alcohol. Plastic bottles are mostly made of general polyethylene plastic and PET. When filled with plastic bottles, over time, the polyethylene will dissolve in the alcohol, affecting the fragrance of the perfume. In severe cases, it can even cause skin allergies. At the same time, PET is a new type of high-molecular polyester material. If stored for too long, the alcohol will gradually evaporate and react with the plastic, causing the perfume to deteriorate.

Glass bottles look more beautiful. Whether it is frosted glass or ordinary glass, they all give a sense of elegance and grandeur. Moreover, glass bottles feel heavier in the hand.

During daily use, glass bottles will not deform due to squeezing or collision. In general, glass bottles are a very good choice in terms of appearance and usage. Therefore, most perfumes are packaged in glass bottles.
